Two good things under one roof.

At Lazy Daisy Diner + Café, we bring together the comfort of a classic diner and the charm of a relaxed coffeehouse in the heart of downtown Urbana’s Lincoln Square Mall. On one side you’ll find a modern diner serving made-from-scratch breakfast, hearty brunch, big burgers, fresh salads, and tasty cocktails. On the other, a cozy café offers expertly brewed coffee, fresh pastries, wine, and cheese boards — perfect for a quick bite, a work session, or a lingering catch-up with friends.

Our kitchen, led by Chef Joel Burden, cooks with care and creativity, using seasonal and local ingredients whenever possible. Whether you’re grabbing a quick to-go breakfast or lunch, settling into a booth for weekend brunch, or picking up something from our grab-and-go case, everything is made to feel fresh, thoughtful, and neighborly.

Our Values

Lazy Daisy was built to be more than just a place to eat. We believe in the power of the third space — somewhere between home and work that feels inviting, unpretentious, and full of connection. We value hospitality that goes beyond transactions, treating both guests and coworkers with warmth and respect. And we know a thriving business fuels a thriving community: running a stable, sustainable diner lets us support our team, our neighbors, and Urbana’s local food culture.

Meet the Team

  • Chef Joel Burden brings decades of kitchen experience — from farm-to-table restaurants to creative menu development — and a passion for local ingredients and inventive comfort food.
  • Sue K. Lee blends a background in art, teaching, and hospitality, shaping Lazy Daisy’s welcoming café culture.
  • Marten Stromberg revitalized Urbana’s Rose Bowl Tavern and brings deep experience in hospitality, entertainment, and community building.
  • Samuel Vandegrift curates thoughtful beverage programs and guides our approach to wine, cocktails, and guest experience.

Together, we imagined a space where good food, good coffee, and good company come together every day.
